The results of the February 2011 online poll of more than 1,094 Notaries were released as a growing number of government regulators turn their attention to the foreclosure documents crisis — with its reports of falsified, altered or improperly notarized court filings. More than 90 percent of the survey respondents agreed that every Notary should undergo some form of training, even if not required by state law. Currently, only 12 states have any requirement for Notary education.
Of those supporting education, more than 80 percent said that newly commissioned Notaries should require some kind of educational classes; more than 60 percent supported additional courses for Notaries when they renew their commissions; and 10 percent supported courses when a state changes its notarial laws. Full details on the poll results are available online.
